Mark Richt: Cox will remain starting quarterback

Mark Richt said today that Joe Cox will be our starting quarterback for the remainder of the season. Richt said that he made this decision because Cox "gives us the best chance to win."

Cox is getting his turn to be UGA's starting quarterback after sitting on the bench behind Matthew Stafford for three years. The Ginger Ninja (as the Georgia Sports Blog calls him) saw very limited playing time in those three years, which is what you would expect with Stafford as your starter. The only major highlight of Cox's bench years was when he led two fourth-quarter touchdowns to beat Colorado 14-13.

However, Mark Richt did not make the right decision as to what quarterback should start the rest of the year. We need to give another guy a chance: a guy who will give us a better chance to win. And, as Mark Bradley said today, that guy's name is not Logan Gray. However, this is where I partly disagree with Mark Bradley.

Since we're already in a Year of Death, we should split playing time at quarterback between freshmen Aaron Murray and Zach Mettenberger. These two huge QB recruits are likely going to be #1 and #2 on the depth charts this year. Richt needs to learn from his mistakes and prepare Murray and Mettenberger for their starting years.

By the way, Florida coach Urban Meyer suspended linebacker Brandon Spikes for the first half of the Vanderbilt game. This suspension is for poking Washaun Ealey in the eye during the Georgia-Florida game on Saturday. Urban Meyer needs to do more about this, though. Your player almost takes out a guy's EYE and you suspend him just for one half? What a couple of ********.
