Mike Slive: No reason for a "public hanging"

Unrelated comment: Tim Tebow has not yet been cleared to play Saturday night against LSU. Florida head coach Urban Meyer has said that this will likely be a gametime decision.

SEC Commissioner Mike Slive was interviewed today in Chattanooga about the awfulness of SEC officiating. There were several surprising statements in this interview. One was when Slive said that there's no reason for a "public hanging" when an official makes a bad call.

What he meant was that the SEC should not publicly criticize officials. He then went on to say that the SEC has an accountability system to make sure they don't keep bad officials. The problem is, no one knows anything about this accountability system. How are we sure that it is effective?

If this continues for a few more weeks (including bad calls), we might have some conspiracy theories about the SEC officials coming out. People will also start asking about how the conference selects its officials and the requirements for being an official (vision tests, etc.).
