Now that we're midway through the season, a new set of standings comes out every Saturday: the BCS rankings. The Florida Gators got the #1 spot in the inaugural version of these standings.
Even though they're #1, the Gators struggled last week against Arkansas, winning 23-20 on a final minute field goal. Just like the Dawgs, Florida let the seven-foot statue (Ryan Mallett) stand in the pocket and pick apart their secondary. Arkansas's defense performed brilliantly, holding Florida's explosive spread offense to only 23 points. Willie Martinez needs to get the film from this game and study the Hogs' defensive scheme.
As expected, Alabama was #2. The Tide rolled against South Carolina this weekend, beating the Cocks 20-6 in Tuscaloosa. Bama now has a 7-0 record. Only one other BCS conference team has seven wins this year (Iowa).
Here's a look at the top ten of the inaugural BCS rankings (SEC teams are marked with a **):
1. Florida**
2. Alabama**
3. Texas
4. Boise State
5. Cincinnati
6. Iowa
7. USC
8. TCU
9. LSU**
10. Miami
