Dawgs blown out 41-17 by Gators

By the way: The header at the top of the page is going to stay like that (Gator Stomp picture) until I feel like fixing the general header (Sanford Stadium picture). I recently discovered that the Sanford Stadium header is slightly larger than all the other headers I have, so I'll have to fix that before I put it up again.

This game featured many people picking Georgia to upset the vulnerable top-ranked Gators. However, those picks weren't even close.

Florida grabbed a 24-10 lead in the last five minutes of the first half and never slowed down, putting up 17 more points in the second half to score 41 points. Georgia's defense never showed up, as they allowed the Gators to put up 374 yards of total offense, including 210 rushing yards and 164 passing yards. The Dawgs' defense also failed to force any turnovers.

As usual, Georgia's offense failed to do anything. Blair Walsh hit a 49-yard field goal and Joe Cox threw two touchdown passes, but that was basically all the offense did. They only gained 286 offensive yards and turned the ball over four times. Joe Cox threw three interceptions. The other turnover was an interception thrown by Logan Gray that Brandon Spikes returned five yards for a touchdown.

Except for Richard Samuel, Georgia's running game was mostly non-existent. Samuel rushed six times for 40 yards and a 6.7 average. Washaun Ealey had an OK performance, rushing 17 times for 70 yards and a 4.1 average. Combined, the running game picked up only 121 yards on the ground. The Dawgs need to do better than that if they want to win games.

WHY DIDN'T JOE COX THROW TO A.J. GREEN MORE? If you want to beat a team like Florida, you have to get the ball in your playmaker's hands many times. Green had only three catches for 50 yards and was rarely thrown to. Mike Bobo made some more stupid decisions in this game.

Another feature of the game was Georgia's new jerseys. The Dawgs switched to a black helmet and black pants, instead of the normal red helmet and gray pants. The white jerseys remained the same. I thought that the black looked a lot more intimidating than the gray/red. We should make this our regular road uniform. I really liked it. (And also, we could do black helmets/black jerseys/black pants at home for a REAL blackout.)

Georgia is now a miserable 4-4 on the season and most likely will not be bowl eligible at the end of the season. To be bowl eligible, they will have to beat at least TWO of the following teams: Auburn, Kentucky, and Georgia Tech. The Auburn game will depend on which Tiger team shows up: the suckish team (like against Arkansas) or the good team (like against Ole Miss). I can see us winning the Kentucky game, but it's Georgia, so who knows? I definitely can't see us beating Tech.

Hopefully, Mark Richt will make the right coaching changes during the offseason so we can rebuild and be a good football team next year.
