2011 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game: UGA vs. GT?

Our athletic director (Damon Evans) is saying that UGA is discussing moving the Georgia-Georgia Tech game to Week 1 for the 2011 season. The game would also be moved to the Georgia Dome instead of Bobby Dodd Stadium. This slot is the Chick-fil-A College Kickoff Game, which is always a big SEC vs. ACC game.

There are some positives and negatives of moving the game to this slot.

The Positives

• We would get an extra home game and Tech would give up a home game. (The Georgia Dome is like a second home stadium to us).
• Our athletic department would earn a lot of money from playing the game. We would get a lot more money from playing at the Dome than at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
• We could finally get a long time to prepare for the triple option offense.

The Negatives

• Georgia Tech is usually thinner on the depth chart later in the season. This means that they have less good players at the key positions.

Even though there are more positives than negatives, the one negative outweighs the three positives because it's a huge problem. Late in the season, Tech's lineman are beat up and they've lost some players to injury. This makes it easier for us to win.

Also, Georgia Tech fans will never support this idea. They are not willing to give up a home game and give us a virtual home game.
