Oklahoma State head football coach Mike Gundy has said he isn't sure if he wants his players to shake hands with the Georgia players before Saturday's game. Trying to promote sportsmanship, the AFCA has encouraged college football teams to shake hands with each other before their opening games. However, Gundy fears that doing this could result in a huge brawl.
There will be a total of 180 players on the field and sidelines for the Georgia-Oklahoma State game. Gundy said that if something does happen, "I don't know that we could get it broke up before the game."
Even though opposing coaches are required to shake hands before and after every game, the pregame handshake between the two teams is not mandatory. Gundy has said that he respects the AFCA, but he still doesn't want his team to shake hands with the Dawgs.
Gundy's decision adds to a lot of other bad news in Stillwater this week. Cornerback Perrish Cox, linebacker Orie Lemon, and Jamal Mosley, all starters, will not play in the Georgia game. Cox was arrested for driving with a suspended license, Lemon suffered a season-ending ACL tear, and Mosley left the team for "personal reasons."
