Oklahoma Loses; Alabama Tops Virginia Tech

Oklahoma's great expectations for this season were demolished yesterday in Dallas. The thing is - one hit caused them to lose. Quarterback Sam Bradford sprained his throwing shoulder on a huge hit in the closing seconds of the first half. A mediocre performance by the backup quarterback, a questionable decision by Bob Stoops, and a late meltdown by the Sooners' defense also helped cause the loss. The 20th-ranked BYU Cougars upset 3rd-ranked Oklahoma 14-13.

Here are some other major scores from around the top 25:

#5 Alabama beat #7 Virginia Tech 34-24.

#6 Ohio State held on to beat Navy 31-27.

#22 Iowa blocked two field goals in the last seven seconds of their game to beat Northern Iowa 17-16.

#23 Notre Dame shut out Nevada 35-0.

#9 Oklahoma State beat #13 Georgia 24-10.

USC's first-ever freshman quarterback helped them blow out San Jose State 56-3.

Top-ranked Florida demolished Charleston Southern 62-3.
