Georgia beats Arizona State 20-17

A.J. Green was the player of the game last night as Georgia beat Arizona State 20-17 on a last second field goal.

A.J. had eight catches for 153 yards, including a 56-yard touchdown. However, his biggest play happened late in the fourth quarter on a Sun Devil field goal attempt. Green jumped up in the air and tipped the ball, causing the kick to be no good. Blair Walsh then kicked a 37-yard field goal as time expired to win the game for the Bulldogs.

The good and the not so good from last night's game:
The Good
  • A.J. Green: As mentioned above, Green had eight catches for 153 yards, a 56-yard touchdown reception, and a key blocked field goal. He's doing awesome this year now that he's healthy.

  • Blair Walsh: Walsh was up-and-down last year, hitting the key field goals but missing others. However, he was a perfect 2/2 in this game on field goals and 2/2 on extra points.

  • Drew Butler: In the Oklahoma State game, Butler relied solely on the 30-40 yard roll to get a good punt. Last night, he averaged 40.2 yards per punt.

  • The Defense: After a terrible first three games, the defense stepped up and held Arizona State to 17 points, 116 passing yards, and 88 rushing yards.

The Not So Good
  • The Penalties: Georgia has been committing way too many penalties over the past two seasons. The tradition continued last night, as the Dawgs had six penalties for 45 yards.

  • The Turnovers: Another problem for the Bulldogs over the last two years has been turnovers. This continued last night as well, as they turned the ball over three times, with two interceptions and one fumble.

  • The Running Backs: Caleb King, the leading rusher in last night's game, carried 11 times and gained 55 yards. However, all the other backs performed poorly, with the highest average (not including Caleb King and Joe Cox) being 2.3.

  • The Kick Returns: Georgia returned three kickoffs and averaged only 13 yards per return. Terrible.

Other major highlights from around college football include:
  • Florida beat crushed Kentucky 41-7, but Tim Tebow was injured with a pretty bad concussion and taken to the hospital.

  • Iowa upset Penn State for the second year in a row, winning 21-10 in Happy Valley. This and Ole Miss's loss continued the tradition of at least one top-five team losing each week of this season.

  • It was another week of big upsets. Oregon killed destroyed #6 California 42-3. #11 Virginia Tech beat #9 Miami 31-7. South Florida beat #18 Florida State 17-7. Georgia Tech beat #22 North Carolina 24-7. Stanford beat #24 Washington 34-14. All of these upsets make this year look like another 2007.
