Football Leadership Issues

It's been talked about a lot lately, and it will be talked about until opening day in 2009. Leadership - the development of it - is a huge point of emphasis right now. David Hale currently has two articles up on the topic. They can be found in the links at the bottom of this post.

Concerns for next year are (in order):

Defensive End - The entire defensive system is built around getting a strong pass rush from the front four. We only have four healthy defensive ends for spring practice.

Leadership - Starting with head coach Mark Richt. Someone has to decide that epically failing in one half of a game every month won't cut it. Terrible tackling is unacceptable. Poor offense isn't acceptable. The team leaders have to fix that. The off-season workouts sound promising.

Running Backs - Most of the mid-range and long passing at Georgia is built around play action. For the short stuff, we mostly use slants and screens, but everything else usually needs play action. We can't run the offense that Mike Bobo wants to run unless we have a solid running game. The offensive line should be good - but do we have the running backs to do it?

Defensive Back Experience - People laughed because of the way our defensive backs not named Asher Allen played last year. But this is not as important as the other three. They're way bigger concerns.
