AJC: Bobby Knight Interested in Coaching at Georgia

Update: ESPN has acknowledged that Bobby Knight is interested in the coaching position at Georgia. They also reported that Knight said he wasn't pursuing the job, but if offered it, he would take it.

Yesterday in the AJC, Furman Bisher wrote in his column that Bobby Knight is interested in the head basketball coach position at Georgia. He stated that the information came from a mutual friend and Knight and Bisher that did not want to be identified.

Knight, a former head coach at Indiana and Texas Tech, is infamous for his good basketball teams but also his rough demeanor and on-court antics. After that's said, he's won 902 games as a college basketball head coach.

UGA President Michael Adams had no comment regarding Knight and the search for a basketball coach, but did say, "There is no reason for us not to have a first-rate basketball team at the University of Georgia."

Most Bulldog fans say they wouldn't mind having Knight as a coach, but only after a few better options are tried first. People have named Jeff Capel, Sean Miller, Jamie Dixon, Brad Stephens, Anthony Grant, and a few others.

There is no question that Knight would instantly turn Georgia's basketball team into a success; however, can he still coach and recruit in today's environment, and how long will be able to coach? That remains to be seen.
