Rounding Out the 2008 Season: Recognitions (Featuring Utah)

To finish out the 2008 college football season, I would like to recognize several teams and people who contributed to this great year.

First of all, the Utah Utes, out of the Mountain West conference. They went 13-0 and in today's game that is a very difficult feat. Besides their conference schedule, they traveled to Ann Arbor and beat Michigan in the Big House, which is always very difficult. Then they had wins over Oregon State (the only team to beat USC) and TCU (a ranked team that knocked off Boise State, a regular season undefeated). Congratulations to Utah, 2009 Sugar Bowl champions and the only unbeaten in 2008.

My second recognition goes to Sam Bradford, who became the second sophomore to win the Heisman Trophy this year, beating out Tim Tebow and Colt McCoy. The amazingly accurate and quick-thinking quarterback contributed to Oklahoma's 11 wins and five straight games with 60 or more points.

Next, I would like to congratulate the Florida Gators, national champions of the 2008 season. They fought through an SEC schedule, beat a team that was #1 for five weeks, and then shut down the highest scoring offense in the country for the national title. As much as I hate to say it, congratulations to Urban Meyer and the Gators.

Also, congratulations to the four BCS bowl winners: USC, Virginia Tech, Utah, and Texas. It is tough to win a BCS game because you know only the best teams get selected, and these teams all did it.

And lastly, the game changing performance of the year. I believe that it was Graham Harrell to Michael Crabtree to beat Texas in the final seconds. This was Texas's only loss and without this play, Texas might have ridden right into Miami to face the Gators. Congrats to both Graham Harrell, Michael Crabtree, and the other nine offensive players on the field during this game changing and season changing play.
